Areas of Expertise & Interest
I take a systemic approach when working with my clients. Whether I am working with an individual, couple or family, I look at each person as a unique individual while considering the multiple influences in their life. When working with children and adolescents, I believe in the importance of collaborating with school, other providers and including parents and other family members when appropriate.
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and have over fifteen years experience in the field. I grew up as a first generation Filipino-American in the suburbs of Chicago. I earned my Bachelor of Science in psychology and zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I worked as a medical technologist for five years before earning my Master of Arts in Counseling from Northwestern University. I spent my first years of clinical experience in community mental health on the north side of Chicago. I then worked at an alternative high school with at-risk teens and their families. Given my professional background and personal experiences, I have always been interested in how the many factors in one’s life impact their development, perspective and relationships.
I work with a wide range of transitional and mental health issues including teen issues, ADHD, acculturation issues, anxiety and depression. Change of life events may include transition to college, change of career, or divorce. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, crafting, and scrapbooking.
