Treatment Philosophy

I truly believe that each of us, no matter what we have experienced or where we come from, have the power within us to live the life we want to live.  This potential can be unlocked if we have the strategies to walk through the anxiety of overcoming them and facing our fears.

Together we will use evidence based techniques to make the changes necessary to improve your quality of life.  Whether you are coming to counseling alone or as a family we will build a set of skills to manage the feelings, thoughts or behaviors that are causing distress in your life.  Employing several treatment methods, primarily Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we will work towards common goals that you set for yourself.

Areas of Expertise & Interest

I have spent the past several years working with people who struggle with severe anxiety disorders and OCD spectrum disorders. Some common issues that I regularly help with are OCD, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobias and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. We will use evidence-based treatment strategies to decrease anxiety and increase your ability to function and live a meaningful life.

Having worked for many years with adolescents in a variety of settings, I am also passionate about working with adolescents who are experiencing behavioral difficulties, either at home or at school.  Working with adolescents often requires that their parents are involved in counseling as well in some capacity, as the change that often must occur for adolescents is systemic within the family and requires everyone to make some changes.  When working together we will develop concrete behavioral strategies to help the whole family to restore balance in the home.  I am a founding member of OCD Midwest, a subsidiary of the International OCD Foundation and of the Chicagoland Hoarding Task Force, where I serve on the executive board.

In my free time I enjoy fishing, playing tennis, playing various musical instruments and spending time with my family and friends.

Experience & Training

Prior to and during graduate school I worked in several inpatient psychiatric units, including Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park. I received my Master's Degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in 2006.

The field placement I chose for my Practicum in graduate school was at a small therapeutic day school called the Learning House in Wheeling. I subsequently stayed on staff as a therapist there after my degree was completed and worked there for several years as a Youth & Family Counselor. The majority of the students I worked with were experiencing severe emotional and behavioral issues and I enjoyed working with them and with their families.

After working for several years at the Learning House I began working independently at a group practice called Marks & Associates in Park Ridge. It was there that I began working closely with clients with severe anxiety and OCD under the guidance of Dave Marks, an expert in the field. While working in the group practice I also spent some time working for the Family Service Center in Wilmette and Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, where I conducted level-of-care assessments for substance abuse and mental health.

I opened Glenview Counseling Group in 2012 so that I could offer treatment to more people and so that our counselors could offer high-quality services to our community. We are dedicated to being a part of our community and have been working closely with our local schools and other community organizations in the hopes that people will be able to find help at their time of need.

I have completed the highest level of training endorsed by the International OCD Foundation, the Behavioral Therapy Training Institute. I am a member in good standing of the International OCD Foundation, OCD Midwest, Illinois Counseling Association and Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association.
