Avery Norwick, MS
Psychotherapist
Treatment Philosophy
Sometimes life can seem overwhelming- whether we are held back by things in our past, experiencing present obstacles, or anxious about things to come. Whether working with individual clients or with couples, I am passionate about supporting others in overcoming life’s difficulties and reaching their goals.
I view therapy as a collaborative relationship between therapist and client, and value creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being their authentic selves.
My goal as a therapist is to support clients in restoring a sense of hope and positive self-worth. Everyone has the capacity for personal growth within them. My job is to help clients identify and access resources they have in order to achieve this.

I approach therapy from a person-centered lens and integrate techniques from other theories of psychotherapy to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with. Some of the theories I draw from include solution- focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma informed therapy. Additionally, in my work with clients I am mindful and aware of the ways in which social identities (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.) impact the way we navigate mental health journeys and the world in general. I work with clients on a variety of issues- some of which include depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, mood regulation, and stressful life adjustments.
When working with couples, I help my clients to better understand themselves and one another in order to facilitate real changes and build healthy and meaningful relationships.
Outside of the office, I enjoy exercising, cooking, reading, watching TV/ movies, and have recently picked back up learning Spanish. I love getting together with friends and family to do any of the above activities or just to spend quality time.

I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I earned my BS in Clinical/ Community Psychology and my MS in Mental Health Counseling. During my graduate studies I worked at a private practice where I provided therapy to clients of diverse backgrounds and presenting concerns.
