Treatment Philosophy

I believe that we cannot grow into our best selves without trusted companions, guides, and witnesses to our feelings and experiences. And in today’s busy and often unsafe world, those trusted others can be hard to find. In addition, one of the ironies of going through hard times is that we often believe we can “go it alone” and find it hard to trust other people.

Let me offer myself as someone to trust and grow with. In a space of mutual respect and vulnerability we can look at your experiences with curiosity and appreciation and consider ways to move toward your goals.

  • My therapeutic expertise and interests are in grief and loss, life transitions, mood disorders, relationship issues, trauma, and work/life balance. I use a range of evidence-based treatment modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Interventions.

When I’m not working, I love to spend my time reading, hiking, gardening, foraging, and fermenting foods in my home lab/kitchen.

  • I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with over 20 years of therapeutic experience and advanced degrees in sociology and clinical psychology. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Miami University, my Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University, and my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. I worked for more that twenty years at Ascension (formerly Alexian Brothers and AMITA Health) Mental Health Center managing the PSR program then and as a senior outpatient therapist, and for more than five years as a psychotherapist at Urban Balance LLC.
